WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Have you ever been completely absorbed in thought, oblivious to the things going on around you? Perhaps you were
reading a book, staring out the car window, or just lying in bed thinking about something or someone.
This state of concentration or focused attention is akin to what we call hypnosis. While you were 'lost in
thought' your unconscious mind took over and guided you in a subtle, unnoticeable way.
Hypnosis focuses your mind on a particular issue so that you can use your mind more powerfully to influence your
desired outcome. This is done several ways:
Mental Imagery: using your imagination to effect change is a very powerful tool. You can use your imagination to
change that picture of yourself or your problem from a negative image to a positive image. The more you focus on
the positive image, the more that change takes place in reality.
Suggestion: While in a completely relaxed state, your mind is more susceptible to suggestion and ideas. If there
is something you want, you are less prone to resisting it when in a hypnotic state.
Mental exploration: When you are fully engaged with the world your defenses are heightened - you are responding
every minute to the emotional and physical stimuli around you. When you are in a deeply relaxed state of hypnosis,
you are able to bypass the censors of your conscious mind and discover hidden motivations and experiences that can
be causing problems.
For all these reasons, hypnotherapy can be an incredibly effective tool for treating and even curing a vast array
of emotional and physical ailments.
